Like many Break Through Tech students, Ava’s path to a potential career in Computer Science has been anything but straightforward.

“In a sea of male peers, my presence felt more like an anomaly than the norm, with classmates recognizing me simply because I stood out as one of the few women in the room. I wanted to be recognized for my skills, knowledge, and contributions—not just because of my gender.”

As a female engineer working in tech and finance, Yvonne has been a long-time champion of initiatives to increase the number of women working in those areas and is about to be a three-peat mentor for Break Through Tech, this time for their AI program.
