On March 1st, Break Through Tech kicked off Women’s History Month by partnering with Boss Beauties to host an event at the New York Stock Exchange. The NYSE generously provided a unique and highly appropriate space for us in the Siebert Hall. The space is dedicated to Muriel Siebert, a true trailblazer and the first woman to hold a seat on the Exchange.

The event kicked off with the always exciting market’s opening bell ceremony and was followed by a panel of inspiring speakers and a “speed mentoring” session for more than 40 Break Through Tech students. During the session, the students learned about career opportunities and received valuable advice from our partners at Citadel, Mastercard, Verizon, Commvault, and others.

Many of the Break Through Tech undergrads are first-generation students from underrepresented communities and it was truly inspirational for them to connect with such a successful cohort and learn what might be possible for their own future careers.

After the mentoring sessions, Break Through Tech’s Dr. Judith Spitz, Ph.D. was joined by Boss Beauties CEO Lisa Mayer and Serena Ventures’ De’Havia Stewart for an edition of NYSE Floor Talk hosted by Judy Khan Shaw. During the interview, Dr. Spitz was able to highlight the efforts of Break Through Tech to address the long-standing diversity issues in the tech industry, with particular emphasis on the problems posed by the fast-growing AI sector.

We are grateful for our partnership with Boss Beauties and also look forward to the successful launch of their new book filled with quotes from inspirational women of all ages.
